Interactions with existing campaigns and Blueprints

Interactions with existing campaigns in Blueprints let you inherit settings from or manage campaigns that aren’t linked to a Blueprint.

Updated this week

When integrating Blueprints into an account with existing campaigns, you’ll define how they match to existing campaign names, interact with those campaigns, and apply inherited settings.

🛑 Caution: This is an advanced feature. Reversing changes may not be possible. Always check with a Fluency team member to verify that configured settings are appropriate for your use case and needs.

Configuring interactions

  1. Go to Automate (rocket icon) in the left menu.

  2. Select Blueprint Editor.

  3. Click on a Blueprint, and then a campaign.

  4. Open the Interactions with Existing Campaigns section.

  5. Configure the following settings:

    • Matching Strategy: Ensure the correct formula is used for matching to campaign names.

    • Name Collision Handling: Set how Blueprint interacts on matching campaign names.

    • “Inherit From” Name Patterns: Define patterns to identify campaigns for inheritance.

    • “Inherit From” Status, Spend, Geo Strategy, and Extensions: Customize how these elements are inherited.

Additional configuration details

Existing Campaign Matching Strategy

  • Use the literal name: Uses the literal Blueprint campaign name to match on when finding non-Blueprint-managed campaigns

  • Use the Blueprint and template's “formula”: Uses a formula of tags within a Blueprint campaign name to match on when finding non-Blueprint-managed campaigns.

Note: Carefully review these settings to prevent errors in campaign matching.

Non-Blueprint Name Collision Handling

Determines how the Blueprint interacts when matching on a non-Blueprint campaign

  • Rename the existing campaigns with suffix and change no other settings: The new Blueprint campaign inherits from a non-Blueprint-managed campaign based on "Inherit From" settings. Adds suffix [NBP {date}] to the non-Blueprint campaign’s name.

  • Rename the existing campaigns with suffix and ensure non-Blueprint campaign is paused: The new Blueprint campaign inherits from the non-Blueprint-managed campaign based on "Inherit From" settings. Pauses the non-Blueprint campaign and adds the suffix [NBP {date}] to its name.

  • Manage the existing campaign (in-place): Takes over the existing, non-Blueprint-managed campaign so that it is Blueprint managed.

    • Note: Google ads within the Blueprint launch as new ads alongside any existing ads in the ad groups that were taken over, while Meta ads replace existing ones at launch.

"Inherit From" Name Patterns

Defines patterns (e.g., New Ford*) to match on existing campaigns to be inherited from or changed, based on the below "Inherit From" settings. Wildcards can be used for flexible matching.

"Inherit From" Status

Specifies how the status of "inherited from" campaigns is updated. It’s recommended that "inherited from" campaigns are paused after their settings are inherited.

"Inherit From" Existing Spend

Determines how the system handles spend from the "inherited from" campaigns.

"Inherit From" Geo Strategy

Uses the geo-targeting in "inherited from" campaigns or uses the geo strategy in the new Blueprint campaign. Lock these settings as needed.
