Account settings linked to a Blueprint typically stay in sync with that Blueprint. However, when settings are manually changed in Manage, those fields become locked. A locked field means that the linked Blueprint is no longer in sync, preventing the Blueprint from overwriting those changes for that account. This feature gives users the flexibility to either manage accounts entirely from Blueprints or customize account changes as needed.
Locking and unlocking fields
Locking fields
Auto locking
When a Blueprint is published, all fields are unlocked and synced to the Blueprint. Fields will automatically lock when changes are made in Manage, Bulk Manage, and while using Advanced Download. A field is considered locked when it displays a red lock icon.
Manual locking
Gray icons indicate unlocked fields that are still syncing with the linked Blueprint. To manually lock a field, click the gray lock icon next to the element you want to unlock within an account in Manage. This action turns the lock icon red. Remember to click Save to confirm the changes.
Unlocking fields
Unlocking in bulk
There are two ways to unlock elements of an account in bulk:
In Manage, select the account(s) you'd like to unlock fields for and click Bulk Manage. From here, you can apply your chosen filters and then select Clearing Locks and Re-enabling Blueprint Automation.
Navigate to the Notifications section and click Anomalies to access all locked fields at the campaign, ad group, and keyword levels. Choose the specific elements you want to unlock and click Unlock Fields.
Manually unlocking
Within a single account, select the locked element you want to unlock. Click the red lock icon next to the field to unlock it and then click Save.
Locking and unlocking fields in bulk
You can lock and unlock the same fields for multiple campaigns, budgets, etc., through the Bulk Manage tool.
To lock or unlock a field in bulk:
Go to Manage in the top menu.
Check the box(es) next to the account(s), budget(s), campaign(s), etc. you want to apply the lock/unlock to.
Click Bulk Manage in the blue bulk edit menu.
Under Actions, click Please Select to select a matching element (Account, Budget, Campaign, Ad Group, Keyword, or Creative) in the dropdown.
In the second dropdown that appears, select either locking specific fields or unlocking specific fields. Note: To lock or unlock all the fields and allow a Blueprint to write over fields in Manage, select All for Enter a Value.
Click Preview to verify the accuracy of the changes.
Click Apply to implement your changes immediately, or choose Schedule to apply them at a later date.
Confirm your changes by clicking the Settings & Tools gear icon in the top menu and selecting Bulk Receipts from the dropdown. You can cancel scheduled changes from here.
Setting lockable fields when launching a Blueprint
Set lockable fields when you are ready to launch a Blueprint for the first time on an account. This will bulk-lock those fields so you do not have to lock them manually in Manage.
For instance, if you enable the "Bidding Strategy" toggle in Lockable Fields, the initial launch will include the configured bidding strategy from the Blueprint and lock those fields in Manage. Any subsequent changes to the bidding strategy won't be applied during future Blueprint republishes.
To configure lockable fields in Blueprints:
Go to Blueprints in the top menu.
Choose a Blueprint from the list on the left.
Expand open the Settings & Configuration section, and select Lockable Fields.
Toggle on the field(s) you want to unlink from (or, alternatively, link to) the Blueprint.
Click Save Changes.
What happens when I reverse sync?
Locked fields only impact the relationship to a Blueprint. A Reverse Sync pulls in changes that have been made at the partner into Fluency—the changes will occur even if the field is locked.
While Reverse Sync can update unlocked fields, it won't automatically lock them. If you want to preserve those changes, you'll need to manually lock the fields. Failing to do so might result in your Blueprint overwriting those changes during the next republish.
