Advanced Blueprint geo-targeting capabilities
Advanced Blueprint geo-targeting capabilities

Target or exclude specific locations for your ad campaigns.

Updated this week

Geo-targeting in Blueprints allows you to set up desired location targeting using parameters (e.g., city names, zip codes, etc.) and additional customization options (e.g., radius, drive time radius, etc.). With geo-targeting, you can also add negative targeting for areas where you don't want your ads to show.

Setting up campaign-level geo-targeting

  1. Go to Blueprints in the top menu.

  2. Select a Blueprint and then a campaign.

  3. Open the Geo Targeting section.

  4. In the Geo Strategy field, add your desired target or the tag that includes your desired targets, such as [Location Targeting]. See formatting instructions below.

  5. Complete the remaining optional fields (Note: The fields you see depend on the type of campaign you're editing):

    • Geo Targeting Description: Add clarifying notes on the chosen geo targeting. This has no impact on how the targeting appears in the campaign post launch.

    • Postal Code Use: The default is Directly Use Postal Codes. If you are advertising for an industry that restricts the use of zip codes (e.g., housing, employment, etc.), click the dropdown and select Convert Postal Codes To Radius Targets. This will convert each zip code to a radius that roughly encompasses the area of the zip code.

    • Positive Geo Target Strategy: Choose from "People in, or who show interest in, your targeted locations (recommended)," "People in your targeted locations," or "People searching for your targeted Locations (Microsoft only)."

    • Negative Geo Target Strategy: The default is People in your excluded locations.

  6. Click Save Changes at the top of the page.

Note: Geo targeting may also be defined at the ad set level in Facebook campaigns and will take precedence over those set at the campaign level.

Understanding the Geo Strategy field

In the Geo Strategy field, you can enter any location or tag (e.g., Burlington, Michigan, Canada, etc.).

When adding multiple locations, press the return/enter button to separate the values.
