Custom notifications powered by Data Explorer

Create custom notifications with saved data sets in Data Explorer.

Updated this week

Custom notifications in Data Explorer gives you access to dozens of filters to narrow your alerts for specific situations. Depending on your account structure, you can configure alerts for conditions such as advertising channel, device, keyword, locations, etc.

Creating a custom notification

Creating custom notifications involves two main steps:

  1. Create and save a data set.

  2. Configure and save a custom notification. Note: You must apply a filter before building a custom notification.

💡 Example

In this example, we'll set up a custom notification for accounts that:

  • Have account budgets greater than $500

  • Show no conversions in the last 14 days

Step #1: Load a Data Explorer report

  1. Go to Insights (bar icon) in the left menu.

  2. Select Data Explorer.

  3. Under Customize on the right, choose Performance Metrics as the Report Type (if not the default selection) and click Load.

Step #2: Apply a filter

A filter is required to set up a custom notification. The workflow below walks you through an example to generate a data set where the spend limit is greater or equal to $500 and conversions equal 0.

  1. Click the Filter icon under Customize.

  2. Click + Create Filter Group and select Account.

  3. In the Field dropdown, select Spend Limit (Current) ($).

  4. In the dropdown to the right, select Greater Than or Equal, and enter 500 as the Value.

  5. Repeat Step 4 to add a second filter group: Performance metric > Conversions > Equals > 0.

  6. Click Apply.

Step #3: Save your data set

  1. Click Save in the top menu.

  2. Enter a Name and Description.

  3. Under Who Has Access, select who can access the data set (only you, everyone at your company, or specific users).

  4. Click Save Data Set.

Step #4: Configure and save your notification

  1. Select the Notification tab in the left side menu and toggle on Enable Notification.

  2. Under Category, enter an existing notification type (e.g., Budget and spend) or enter your own to create a new category.

Note: When the notification is triggered, it will appear under this category in the Notifications tool.

  3. Set a Severity level.

  4. (Optional) Select a Notification Link from the dropdown. This will take you directly to the area in Fluency to address the concern.

  5. Enter a Name and Description, using tags if desired.

Using tags with custom notifications

Use tags to dynamically change a notification’s details. For example, adding [Account] in the Description field will show the specific account name for each notification. Click a tag to copy and paste it. The list of options include the columns visible in your report.

Example: [Account]’s [Campaign] campaign has 0 conversions in the last 14 days. Review campaign for optimizations.

Step #5: Preview and save your custom notification

  1. Scroll down to preview the notification.

  2. If you are satisfied with the setup, click Save Data Set and choose Save As New.

Tip: If you get too many notifications, try adding more filters to narrow your data set.

Updating existing custom notifications

  1. Select Open (cloud icon) in the top menu to view saved data sets. In the Add Ons column, custom notifications will have a Notification label.

  2. To update the custom notification, click on the data set.

  3. Make your updates and select Edit.

  4. Click Save Data Set to create a new custom notification or Overwrite Existing.
