Setting up conversion tracking

Set up conversion tracking using conversion action templates.

Conversion action templates (or conversion actions) enable you to set up conversion tracking and goals to see what people do once they visit your website. These templates can be used to import various metrics, such as call or click metrics and other on-site conversion data.

Creating a conversion action template

  1. Hover over Manage (globe icon) in the left menu, and select Conversion Actions.

  2. Click + Add Conversion Action.

  3. Fill in the form fields for the new conversion action template. Some fields may be specific to Google, Microsoft, or Meta, and available fields vary depending on the conversion action type. Note: Google does not support the Rules or Custom Rules section. Configure a rule in Google Tag Manager to set up a specific conversion event.

Important: Ensure the correct option is selected in the conversion action Type field (Upload calls, Upload clicks, or Web conversion), as it can't be edited once saved.

  4. Click Save.

Editing or deleting existing conversion actions

  1. Hover over Manage (globe icon) in the left menu, and select Conversion Actions.

  2. Click a conversion action to open the row.

  3. Make desired changes in the settings.
Note: To delete a conversion action, click Delete at this point instead.

  4. Click Save.

Setting up a conversion action data source

To import conversion actions, you'll need a designated location to host ongoing conversion data, such as an S3 bucket or SFTP. Once set up, your Advertising Engineer can assist in connecting this data source to your conversion action template.

Assigning pixels to conversion templates

When using a Meta conversion template, you can control which Facebook pixel is linked to your conversion action. Fluency automatically creates a Facebook pixel when creating a new Meta ad account at the time of launch.

Before you can assign a pixel, you need to create a conversion template first.

  1. Hover over Automate (rocket icon) in the left menu, and select Blueprint Editor.

  2. Select a Blueprint.

  3. Click Settings and Configuration and then Conv. Templates.

  4. Under Available Conversion Action Templates, hover over the template you want to assign and click to copy it. Choose a Custom Conversion type.

  5. Paste it in the field on the left.

  6. In the Pixel Name field that appears, enter the display name or the ID of the pixel.

  7. Click Save & Republish.

Use Dynamic Tags: You can use tag syntax (e.g., [Account Name]) to resolve the pixel name dynamically at launch time. Tags will appear as styled chips once typed.

Notes:

  • Supported Types: Only Custom Web Conversion templates support pixel assignment.

  • Matching: Matching is case-insensitive. If the specified pixel name/ID is not found, the assignment is skipped and a warning is logged (it will not fall back to the first available pixel).

  • Fallback: If no pixel name is configured, the system defaults to the first available pixel on the account.

  • Priority: Main Blueprint mappings override mappings defined in Blueprint snippets.
