Broadcast: Scheduling temporary ad copy and elements

Schedule and manage temporary ad messages.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The Broadcast tool allows you to temporarily change ad copy, like promoting special deals for upcoming holidays or a monthlong promotion. It allows you to schedule when a temporary message begins and ends, eliminating the need for manual reminders to pause or remove these ads. Once the broadcast period ends, your ad copy automatically reverts to the original version.

Types of broadcasts available

  • Account-level broadcasts: Changes ads for a single account

  • Global broadcasts: Changes ads for more than one account.

  • Meta (Facebook) broadcasts: Changes Meta ads for specific elements

Creating broadcast messages

Account-level broadcasts

To create and schedule broadcasts for a single account:

  1. Go to Manage (globe icon) in the left menu.

  2. Select Accounts.

  3. Click on an account in the list.

  4. Go to Settings & Tools under Account Actions near the top, and then Broadcast under Account Tools.

  5. Select + New Message and enter your broadcast message under Edit Broadcast Message.

  6. Under Edit Rule Sets:

    1. Choose a Location in Ad for where the message should appear (e.g., Headline 1, Description).

    2. Under Valid During, select the start and end dates for the message to run. Click Apply after you set each date.

    3. Define Match Rules that indicate which ads the broadcast will change.

  7. To add another location, select + New Rule Set.

    Notes:

    • Adding an additional match rule will act as an AND statement. Anything that would be considered an OR statement will require the creation of an additional rule set.

    • In a Broadcast message, you can only include one headline and one description rule set for each ad.

    Examples:

    The following combinations will work:
    Headline 1 + Description

    Headline 2 + Description

    Headline 3 + Description 2

    These combinations will not work:

    Headline 1 + Headline 2

    Headline 1 + Description 1 + Description 2

Duplicate an existing broadcast message by selecting Clone Message & Rule Set. Cloning provides a template so you don’t have to start a new message from scratch, especially if you plan to keep the same match rules.

  8. Click Preview and Publish to review the broadcast message.

  9. When ready, click Ready to Publish? and then Publish.

Global broadcasts

Use global broadcasts to change ad copy for more than one account.

  1. Go to Manage (globe icon) in the left menu.

  2. Select Accounts.

  3. Click the Broadcast button (signal icon) in the top-right.

  4. Select + New Message and enter your broadcast message under Edit Broadcast Message.

  5. Under Edit Rule Sets:

    1. Choose a Location in Ad for where the message should appear.

    2. Under Valid During, select the start and end dates for the message to run. Click Apply after you set each date.

    3. Define Match Rules that indicate which ads the broadcast will change.

  6. To add another location, select + New Rule Set.

  7. Click Preview and Publish to review the broadcast message.

  8. When ready, click Ready to Publish? and then Publish.

Meta (Facebook) broadcasts

Meta ad copy elements available for broadcasts include Primary Text, Headline, Description, Call To Action, Website URL, and Display URL.

Customizing broadcasts using tags

  1. Within a Broadcast message, click + Special Broadcast Tags to show the available tags list.

  2. Click a tag to copy and paste it within your message.

Important: Tag content is dynamic, so some ads may not receive the Broadcast message if the character count exceeds length limits. Be sure to preview your ads to check that the tags are populating the desired broadcast message.
