Duplicating campaigns, ad groups, and ads

Create copies of existing ad elements in Manage.

Updated over 6 months ago

Duplicate lets you create identical campaigns, ad groups, and ads from existing ones. You can quickly create copies without leaving Manage. Duplicated versions retain the settings of the original campaign, ad group, or ad, unless you make tweaks via the Duplicate Plans option.

How to duplicate ad elements in bulk

  1. Go to Manage in the top menu.

  2. Click on an account in the list.

  3. Go to the Campaigns, Ad Groups, or Ads tab, depending on which element you want to duplicate.

  4. Check the boxes next to the campaign(s), ad group(s), or ad(s) you want to duplicate.

  5. Click Duplicate in the blue bulk edit menu. This will open a modal window.

  6. (Optional) Make any additional edits in the Duplicate Plans window:

    • Name Replacements: Add a prefix or suffix to the name of the element. By default, (Copy) is appended as a suffix to all duplicates.

    • New Campaign/Ad Group/Ad Names: You will see what the new names look like based on any prefix or suffix added in Name Replacements.

    • Depth: Determines if the duplication applies to just the parent (e.g., a campaign), or the parent and child elements (e.g., a campaign, its ad groups, ads, and keywords).

    • Start/End Dates: Set start and/or end dates for the duplicated element(s).

    • Find & Replace Text (See below)

  7. Click Duplicate.

Finding and replacing text

Use Find & Replace Text to change text within the parent and child element(s). This includes names and any text in child elements, like ad text or keywords (assuming Depth is set to include child elements). Note: The Find & Replace Text fields are case sensitive.

Use Find & Replace Text for:

  • Campaigns: Name

  • Ad Groups: Name and Destination URL

  • Creative: Name, Ad text, and Destination URL

  • Keywords: Keyword Text

Example: You're duplicating a campaign named "Cambridge Condos" and have Depth set to include child elements. Replacing "Cambridge" with "Boston" will update the campaign name to "Boston Condos," and will replace any instances of "Cambridge" in the ad text, keywords, or URLs.
