Configuring data sources for multiple accounts
Configuring data sources for multiple accounts

Explore various approaches to setting up external data sources.

Updated over a month ago

The Data Source feature allows you to dynamically update account information across your entire portfolio. Instead of having to set up multiple account-level data sources in Manage, you can use just one.

Viewing existing data sources

  1. Go to Settings & Tools (gear icon) in the top menu.

  2. Select Data Sources from the dropdown.

Configuring account data set templates

Account data set templates are handy when you want many accounts to use one data source. This way, you don't have to set up a separate data source for each account.

  1. Click Settings & Tools (gear icon) in the top menu.

  2. Select Data Sources from the dropdown.

  3. Under "Account Data Set Template," click + Template.

  4. Give the template a Name that pertains to the data you're using (e.g., Inventory, Images, Specials, etc.). Note: The name is case-sensitive, so watch for unintended spaces or capitalized letters. If you plan to use this data source in a Blueprint, make sure the naming convention is the same.

  5. Configure the optional fields, such as data filters, frequency, etc.

  6. Add an Endpoint. Paste the URL link to the data source that has been published to the web. The URL protocol (e.g., gdrive://, https://) will update automatically.

  7. Double-check the URL. Next to Rendered URL, make sure the URL does not have a double protocol (e.g., https://https://).

  8. Under "Select Account Segment," change from the default "All Accounts" if you want the data source to be used by just some accounts.

  9. (Optional) Toggle on Extract Media. Turn this on if you're pulling images off of Google Drive, etc.

  10. Click Save to finish.

Configuring global data sets

Global data sets can be used when you have a source that contains data that may be applicable to all accounts within a Customer. Data contained within global data sets won't necessarily need to be mapped to specific accounts.

To configure a global data set, follow the instructions for setting up an account data set template above, but select + Data Set under “Global Data Sets.”

Note: Global data sets may require additional engineering support to optimize the configuration. Work with your Advertising Engineer to complete the set up.

Refreshing data sources

Data sources refreshes automatically based on the selected frequency. To refresh them manually, click Refresh Data or Refresh Template under Update Frequency.

Setting up data sources

Data sources are used when you have massive data repositories and you want to give Fluency access to those databases. Data sources are rarely used and require engineering support. Contact your Advertising Engineer to set one up.
